Student housing & campus safety

Student cooking causes fires. CTS helps prevent them in every kitchen

Colleges and universities are responsible for a safe living environment, and dorm and apartment kitchens are one of the hardest places to control. The CTS Smart Kitchen Sensor protects students and property from the leading cause of residential fires: unattended cooking.

Why campuses choose CTS

Protect students, property, and your budget

Catches unsafe and unattended cooking early

Dorms and student apartments see distracted, late-night, and first-time cooking. CTS catches unsafe and unattended cooking early, before it becomes a fire.

Loud voice and light alerts

The sensor's AI reads the real heat on each stove and warns students with a spoken message and bright flashing lights, so danger gets noticed fast.

Shuts the stove off automatically

If no one responds, the CTS Power Cutoff cuts power to that stove on its own, before a fire can start.

Remote control for staff

With the CTS Multi Sensor Dashboard, RAs and facilities staff get alerts and can disable and lock any stove remotely, one unit or building-wide during breaks.

Protect property and budgets

A single kitchen fire means repairs, displaced students, and lost time. CTS helps prevent that disruption.

Installs in about 10 minutes

No camera, works with or without Wi-Fi, and installs in about 10 minutes per unit with no tools and no electrician.

In every unit

Predictive safety on each stove

The sensor mounts above each stove and uses thermal sensing, not a camera, to watch for dangerous temperatures and unattended cooking. It warns the student with a clear voice and flashing lights, and if no one responds, the CTS Power Cutoff shuts that stove off on its own. Identical protection in every kitchen, whether or not anyone is watching.

  • Catches unsafe and unattended cooking early in every unit
  • Shuts the stove off automatically

For residence life and facilities

One screen shows every unit

Residence life teams and facility directors work from the CTS Multi Sensor Dashboard: every unit at a glance, which stoves are on, which units had unsafe cooking events, and which sensors need attention. Staff get real-time alerts and can remotely disable and lock stoves, one at a time or building-wide during breaks and emergencies. Role-based access controls who can view and who can act, with a complete event history throughout.

  • Every unit on one screen
  • Disable and lock any stove, one or building-wide
  • Real-time alerts with role-based access

Common questions

Kitchen fire safety for student housing, answered

How does CTS help prevent kitchen fires in student housing?

Each stove gets a CTS Smart Kitchen Sensor that watches for dangerous temperatures and unattended cooking, warns the student with voice and light, and, with the CTS Power Cutoff, shuts that stove off on its own if no one responds. It helps stop the leading cause of residential fires before it starts, in every unit.

Can staff monitor and control every unit from one place?

Yes. The CTS Multi Sensor Dashboard shows every unit at a glance, which stoves are on, and which had unsafe cooking events. RAs and facilities staff get real-time alerts and can disable and lock stoves remotely, one unit or building-wide, with role-based access and a complete event history.

Are there cameras in student kitchens?

No. The sensor uses thermal sensing only. It reads heat, not images, and never records video or audio, so it protects students without recording them.

What happens if a unit's Wi-Fi goes down?

The core protection works offline. The local alarm and the automatic stove shut-off run without Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is only needed for the remote features like dashboard oversight and remote lock.

How is it installed and priced across many units?

Each unit installs in about 10 minutes with no tools and no electrician: the sensor mounts above the stove with 3M Command strips and the CTS Power Cutoff plugs into a standard 240V outlet. Pricing is based on the number of units and sensors you deploy. Book a demo and we will scope it with you.
